Grant in the Spotlight: Rosie's Place
The Wyss Foundation is proud to announce a $125,000 grant to support Rosie’s Place in providing emergency meals and shelter for women in the Greater Boston area, as well as wide-ranging support, wellness, and educational services.
Founded in 1974, Rosie’s Place was the first women-only emergency shelter in the U.S. Every day, it meets the most basic and critical needs of hundreds of poor and homeless women—offering nutritious groceries and meals; access to showers, lockers, phones, and computers; and by providing both daytime and overnight shelter. Rosie’s Place’s programs are lifelines to women who are seeking urgent housing, employment, substance abuse, mental health, legal, or educational support.
“For our guests, surviving a pandemic when you’re barely surviving poverty can feel impossible. The generosity of the Wyss Foundation has enabled us to respond to unprecedented need with unprecedented compassion, creativity, and support. We are so grateful for the Wyss Foundation’s friendship,” said Leemarie Mosca, president and chief executive officer of Rosie’s Place.
“We are proud to support the incredible compassion and kindness of Rosie’s Place in uplifting the thousands of women they serve each year,” says Molly McUsic, president of the Wyss Foundation. “It is clear that the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted those already most in need. The Wyss Foundation is committed to supporting equal opportunities and economic empowerment for all women.”
