The Wyss Foundation is pleased to announce a $1,000,000 grant to support Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families. The Center conducts research and offers solutions to reduce inequities and improve the health of America’s children and families, particularly those with low and moderate incomes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of uninsured children reached record-low levels as federal funding and the declared public health emergency protected those enrolled in Medicaid from losing their health insurance coverage. With these protections coming to an end, the Center will work with partner organizations to mitigate and minimize public health insurance losses among eligible low-income children and families. It will provide technical assistance, research, and expertise to partners.

“Wyss Foundation support has allowed the Georgetown Center for Children and Families to educate the public about a sleeper issue with huge consequences,” said Joan Alker, executive director of Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families and a research professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy. “The grant will support the Center’s work with partner organizations to prepare for this unprecedented challenge, which could cause eligible individuals to lose Medicaid coverage,” she added.

“As the public health emergency ends, we must continue to ensure that children across the country remain able to access health care. We are proud to support the critical work of the Georgetown Center for Children and Families to help prevent eligible children and families from losing their health insurance coverage,” said Molly McUsic, president of the Wyss Foundation.
