Grant in the Spotlight: Children's Hospital of Los Angeles
(Washington, DC) July 8, 2020 — The Wyss Foundation is excited to announce a grant of $5 million to support the work of the Children’s Orthopaedic Center at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). This grant will enable the center to increase access to orthopaedic trauma care, make capital improvements, provide additional support for experts in fracture, orthopaedic trauma injury, hand and upper extremity disorders care, and 24-hour care for children with orthopaedic injuries treated in CHLA’s Emergency Department and Trauma Program.
As a provider of more than $316.2 million in community benefits annually to children and families, CHLA has opened its doors to all patients regardless of their financial status and is the only hope for many families. The Wyss Foundation is proud to support the program’s vision to become a national and international destination for offering leading-edge care to patients with birth-related and acquired conditions of the hand and upper extremities. This grant will also enhance resources for patients with urgent orthopaedic trauma-related conditions including broken bones, dislocations, sprains and fractures common in children such as those of the clavicle, elbow, wrist, and legs.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is the only freestanding Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Los Angeles County and is among the best hospitals for pediatric orthopaedic care in the United States. CHLA relies on the generosity of the community to support its groundbreaking pediatric research and the complex care it provides for critically ill and injured children.
“I am honored and grateful to partner with the Wyss Foundation to protect the most precious and most vulnerable members of our community—our children,” says CHLA President and CEO Paul S. Viviano. “Children’s Hospital Los Angeles strives to create hope and build healthier futures for children, a mission that is shared by Hanjorg Wyss. This generous gift advances CHLA’s ability to provide world-class clinical care for those who need it the most.”
